How to Use the Immersive Reader

The Immersive Reader is a tool created by Microsoft used to improve reading comprehension. It increases fluency for English language learners, helps build confidence for emerging readers, and offers text decoding solutions for students with learning differences. Follow the steps to learn more!

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1

The Immersive Reader is integrated into our reading tasks. Look for a lesson that has a Read & Listen task listed on the Task Player.

Step 2

Click Start to open the task.

Step 3

Click the Immersive Reader button at the bottom to start using the tool.

Step 4

Click the Play button to start the audio.

Step 5

Click the Voice Settings button and change the voice speed by dragging the slider. You can also choose the voice of the speaker.

Step 6

You can choose your text preferences by clicking on the Text Preferences button.

Change the text size by dragging the slider, choose the font by clicking on the font style, and choose a theme by clicking on a colour.

Step 7

Choose your grammar options by clicking the Grammar Options button.

You can highlight the syllables as well as the parts of speech using different colours.

Step 8

Click the Reading Preferences button to change the line focus, show a picture dictionary for a specific word clicked, or translate a word or the entire document.

Step 9

You can also click on the Full Screen button to enter full screen mode.
